OWNER OPERATORS FIRST™
Answers to common questions about OOF membership, eligibility, marketing, websites, independence, and how everything works.
ABOUT OOF
OOF is a coordinated group of powerful, national websites focussed exclusively on expert carpet cleaning, designed to lift the rankings of small, local, high-quality carpet cleaning businesses and their business websites — whether we built the website for you or not.
OOF is designed to be more powerful at a lower cost.
Most carpet cleaners already know the usual online marketing choices: your isolated business website, on-page SEO, backlinks, Google Ads, Local Services Ads, directories, and lead services.
Those things can add up to a lot of money for an owner operator especially, while your own business website is still expected to do most of the heavy lifting.
OOF changes that by adding our powerful national websites to the mix. They can promote your company, support your website's rankings, talk about your services, build trust with quality-minded homeowners, and help send consumers your way.
So your business can have more than one path for a homeowner to find you online.
But it's so much more than that. It's building valuable backlinks. It's educating homeowners. It's converting price-shoppers into quality-minded consumers. It's creating more high-trusted places online for consumers to find your business. It's building that trust with quality consumers. It's strengthening your local business website. And it's giving independent owner-operators more marketing power than they could build alone.
Your own website stays yours. Your Google Business Profile stays yours. Your company name, reviews, customers, and brand stay yours. OOF is built to support all of those things in powerful ways, not to replace them.
For a more detailed explanation, read How Owner Operators First Works .
No. OOF is not a franchise or a lead-seller.
It's not a franchise: You keep your own company name, brand, pricing, customers, website, services offered, Google Business Profile, equipment, methods, and independence.
It's not a lead-selling service: Lead services typically make money by selling customer inquiries, charging for better placement, or giving greater exposure to businesses that pay more. OOF does not sell leads, and there is NO PAID PLACEMENT. Your position within OOF is based on your merit — not on spending more money.
Absolutely not.
OOF follows a simple philosophy: Bring Your Own Brand. Your business remains your business. We want to increase the visibility and value of what you've already spent years building.
OOF isn't simply selling SEO services to individual carpet cleaners.
We're building a larger cooperative marketing system around excellent independent businesses, using websites, search visibility, consumer education, content, authority, and other long-term marketing assets.
ELIGIBILITY
OOF is primarily for experienced carpet cleaning owner-operators — people who own the company and personally perform cleaning work.
We're looking for cleaners with real expertise, strong customer service, a solid reputation, professional equipment and methods, and a serious commitment to quality.
5 or more years in your current carpet cleaning business is the general benchmark for OOF participation.
10 or more years in your current carpet cleaning business opens further opportunities.
Experience alone does not determine acceptance. Reputation, professionalism, customer service, technical ability, business practices, some involvement in the industry, and overall fit matter too.
We can talk.
OOF is built around true owner-operated
businesses. If you have two trucks but are still
personally cleaning and actively operating the
business, you may still be a good fit.
3 or more trucks definitely falls
outside the OOF model.
MARKETING
No. OOF does not sell you leads, charge you every time someone calls, or take a percentage of the work you get.
We are trying to help more homeowners find your business directly through OOF websites, your own website, Google, and other places online.
And there is no bidding for better placement inside OOF. You cannot pay more to be ranked above another member.
The goal is to help you build a stronger source of customers that belongs to your business — not make you keep buying the next lead.
Possibly, yes.
OOF does build websites for selected owner-operated carpet cleaning businesses, but we are deliberately choosy about who we build them for.
If your business is a strong fit and you need a new website, we can talk about whether our website program makes sense for you.
Qualified cleaners may also have the opportunity to participate in our Ultimate Carpet Cleaner Website program — an ongoing project designed to develop an exceptional website specifically for high-end carpet cleaning businesses.
The idea is not simply to build a website and walk away. We continue testing, refining, and improving what works so the site can become stronger over time.
No. You can benefit from OOF whether we built your website or not.
If you like your current website, it is performing well, you have a webmaster you trust, and the site is already built to high standards, we are happy to work with what you already have.
OOF is designed to support and strengthen your existing website, not force you to replace a good one just so we can sell you another one.
If you do want a new website, we can talk about that too. We are selective about the businesses we build websites for, but qualified OOF members may have the opportunity to participate in our Ultimate Carpet Cleaner Website program.
The UCCW program is our ongoing effort to build and continually improve an exceptional website specifically for high-end carpet cleaning businesses — testing ideas, refining what works, and using what we learn to help the website perform better over time.
They're two consumer-facing websites within the OOF marketing system.
Each has a different role, but both are designed to help consumers discover excellent independent carpet cleaners.
Yes, depending on the particular OOF program and the size of the market.
No ethical SEO or marketing program can guarantee a particular organic Google ranking.
OOF focuses instead on building strong websites, carpet cleaning industry authority, useful content for consumers, consumer resources, and durable marketing assets designed to improve your competitive position over time.
And when those things are done well and work together, they are exactly the kinds of things that tend to produce stronger Google rankings over time.
Again, no ethical SEO or marketing program can guarantee a particular organic Google Maps ranking.
Many cleaners are highly interested in showing up in the Google Maps 3-Pack.
We are too, but we want to be incredibly realistic about it.
Google Maps matters, and OOF absolutely wants members to rank well there. But Maps is heavily influenced by one thing you cannot control: how close your business is to the person searching.
That means the Map Pack often favors the cleaner who is closest — not necessarily the cleaner who is best.
OOF works to strengthen the things that can help your Maps performance, while also building other ways for quality-minded homeowners to find you when geography puts you at a disadvantage.
I've written a more detailed article explaining OOF's approach to Google Maps, why proximity matters so much, and how I believe owner-operators should think about Maps as part of a larger online marketing strategy. Read the article about OOF and Google Maps.

No.
They're your customers. You're running your company. OOF exists to strengthen your independent business, not insert itself between you and the people who hire you.
No.
Many small businesses have experienced the same frustrating pattern: they help a marketing company grow, and once that company attracts larger and more profitable accounts, the smaller clients become an afterthought.
OOF was created specifically for independent, owner-operated carpet cleaning businesses.
They aren't our stepping stone to something bigger. They are the something bigger.
APPLYING
The first application is intentionally simple.
We review enough information about you and your business to determine whether OOF appears to be a promising fit.
If it does, you'll be invited to a relaxed conversation where you can ask questions and learn more about OOF.
Applying does not obligate you to join.
No.
OOF is deliberately selective because the value of the organization depends on consumers being able to trust the quality of the businesses we promote.
If you're an experienced owner-operator who takes your craft and your customers seriously, yes.
You don't have to decide for yourself whether you check every box. That's what the application process is for.
